Most people eat the liver of their friends and family members thinking that it increases love. But you will be surprised to know that a student in Britain had to face a dangerous operation due to eating a liar, while his health was perfectly fine till a day before eating a liar. He didn’t have any physical problem. The student had actually eaten his roommate’s leftover chicken noodles, which had been ordered from a nearby restaurant.
According to this report published in the New England Journal of Medicine, after eating fake noodles, the student’s condition started deteriorating and he fell seriously ill. The body temperature of the student has gone extremely high. Pulse became 166 beats per minute. The condition was such that the doctors had to make him unconscious immediately. The doctors said that he was not allergic nor was he a heavy drinker.
What did the doctors say?
According to the report, when the student was brought to the hospital, he had to be immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Because his pulse was going slow. The student was fine till 20 hours before being admitted to the hospital. But when he ate his friend’s leftover food like rice, chicken noodles etc., he developed stomach ache and nausea. Five hours before he was admitted to the hospital, his skin color started turning purple. Doctors told that the bacteria found in the student’s food spreads through saliva.
The doctors said that looking at the severe symptoms the student was suffering from, it seems that it was caused by an aggressive bacterial infection. His kidney had failed and the blood had also started clotting. According to the report, after the results of the blood test came, the doctors found that the student had a bacteria named ‘Neisseria meningitidis’ in his blood.
What is Neisseria meningitidis?
Doctors said that Neisseria meningitidis bacteria are present in the nose and back of the throat of one out of 10 people. These are called carriers. These bacteria sometimes attack the body and also cause some diseases, which are known as meningococcal disease. There are 6 types of Neisseria meningitidis bacteria- A, B, C, W, X and Y. All of them cause most diseases worldwide. Three of these serogroups, B, C and Y, cause most of the diseases seen in the Americas.
Doctors say that these bacteria present in the blood dilate the blood vessels of the whole body. Reduces blood pressure and prevents oxygen from reaching the body parts. This whole effect is called ‘Purpura Fulminans’. Doctors said that after the student’s blood pressure was stabilised, gangrene developed on his hands and toes, due to which 10 of his fingers and both legs were amputated till the knee.
